Cambodia and Brazil Explore Enhanced Cooperation in Economy and Technology

Phnom Penh - Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister Attached to the Office of the Council of Ministers, Vongsey Vissoth, met with Vivian Loss Sanmartin, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Kingdom of Cambodia, on the morning of July 28, 2026, at the Office of the Council of Ministers in Phnom Penh. Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Sanmartin, congratulating her on her appointment as the first resident Brazilian Ambassador to Cambodia. He highly valued the progress in bilateral relations between the two countries. Ambassador Vivian Loss Sanmartin expressed her gratitude for the meeting and her honor in being appointed as the first resident Brazilian Ambassador to Cambodia. She conveyed her strong desire to understand Cambodia better to jointly explore potential cooperation areas. She proposed sharing Brazil's best practices in sectors such as agriculture, food processing, vocational training, global health programs, national social assistance programs, and digital governance. The Ambassador affirmed her commitment during her diplomatic tenure to strengthen friendship and diversify cooperation across all sectors, particularly by fostering connections between investors and businesspeople of both nations. Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth commended Brazil's significant role in various multilateral and regional forums, noting its membership in BRICS and its current status as a sectorial dialogue partner of ASEAN. Despite the geographical distance, he observed that relations and cooperation between Cambodia and Brazil have steadily grown, with bilateral trade increasing annually. He highlighted Brazil's importance in Latin America, a large country with a substantial population and a highly diversified economy. Vissoth emphasized that Cambodia and Brazil still have ample space and potential to strengthen and expand cooperation in politics, technical areas, and several priority sectors, including economy, trade, investment, agriculture, digital development, skills development, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides also discussed possibilities for enhancing tourism cooperation and attracting more Brazilian tourists to Cambodia through promotion and flight connectivity to facilitate travel. They reiterated their commitment to further strengthen their partnership and expand cooperation to higher levels across all sectors. Before concluding, Deputy Prime Minister Vongsey Vissoth wished Ambassador Sanmartin success in her diplomatic mission, emphasizing that her success would also be Cambodia's success.
