Provisional government mobilizes over 135,000 People's Security Forces for offensive against resistance

The provisional government has mobilized over 135,000 People's Security Forces (PS) to launch offensives against resistance forces, with the majority being incorporated into their military columns, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence (MOD) under the National Unity Government (NUG). Following the decimation of a large portion of its core combat forces between 2021 and 2024, the provisional government began implementing the People's Security Law (conscription) in February 2024 and has since been recruiting personnel, the MOD stated on September 18. Furthermore, between July 2024 and August 2026, 27 rounds of PS training courses were opened, forcibly gathering approximately 135,080 individuals. Currently, this force is being utilized to launch nationwide offensives through "human wave" operations, with PS forces accounting for up to 80 percent of the troops in military columns. The provisional government, which transitioned from a military junta, is enacting this law without the authority to do so, constituting an act of enslaving the people through forced conscription. The NUG and military and political observers have warned that they are attempting to prolong their military dictatorship by sacrificing the lives of civilian youth. Moreover, observing their offensive situation, despite staking hundreds of thousands of PS forces, they have failed to achieve their objectives on any front and are suffering immense losses due to effective attacks by people's resistance organizations, the NUG-affiliated MOD stated. According to the NUG-affiliated MOD's statement, over the two-year period from July 2024 to August 2026, the provisional government's forces suffered 20,383 deaths and 9,792 injuries. Additionally, 3,874 individuals sought refuge with the people, and approximately 20,000 deserted. It has been observed that the majority of these casualties are among the forcibly conscripted People's Security Forces (PS). 536 individuals have been arrested and detained by the NUG and MOD, and adult youths are being warned to avoid being forcibly conscripted by the provisional government through all possible means. Similarly, in urban areas controlled by the provisional government, guerrillas, thugs, and village/town administrative bodies are collaborating to carry out daily kidnappings, human trafficking, and extortion from wealthy families as criminal gangs, posing a significant threat to the safety of young people. The NUG and MOD urge PS conscripts to quickly desert the provisional government forces and contact and cooperate with people's resistance organizations to escape the situation where they are serving to prolong the military dictatorship with their own blood and sweat.
