Dong Thap Accelerates Martyr Remains Sampling, Aims for October Completion

Under the 500-day campaign to step up the search for, collection and identification of the remains of fallen soldiers, as of September 21, the remains sampling team of the Dong Thap provincial Military Command had collected more than 8,420 samples from remains whose identities have yet to be determined. Dong Thap Province aims to complete its sampling efforts by October as part of this national initiative, which seeks to identify and return the remains of soldiers lost during the Vietnam War to their families. In Vietnam, the commemoration of war memories and respect for fallen soldiers are highly valued across society. The government considers this remains identification project a national priority, emphasizing that it requires the efforts of the entire political system. A Deputy Prime Minister has also stated that the endeavor necessitates the engagement of the whole political system. With a national target to identify approximately 18,000 remains samples through DNA testing by July 2027, Dong Thap Province's progress forms a crucial part of this extensive national undertaking.
