Siem Reap Province Strengthens Measures for Tourism Health and Water Resource Security

Siem Reap Province has launched comprehensive measures aimed at the healthy development of its tourism sector and the securing of water resources, which form the foundation of residents' livelihoods. Mr. Ly Samrith, Chairman of the Siem Reap Provincial Council, sternly warned against fraudulent practices and unfair pricing towards tourists, urging for an improvement in the ethical standards of tourism operators. He cautioned that such actions would be akin to "cutting off one's own food supply." Furthermore, while acknowledging that the global economic downturn and the increase in cybercrime are contributing factors to the decline in tourist numbers, he also addressed the conformity of the province's medical infrastructure to international standards. As part of efforts to create an environment where tourists can stay with peace of mind, the possibility of establishing hospitals meeting international standards was suggested. Regarding water resources, instructions were given to formulate plans for the restoration and maintenance of reservoirs in each district and municipality, in preparation for drought risks. This aims to secure irrigation water for farmers and augment natural water sources. Prompt action is particularly required, as the dry season, potentially exacerbated by El Niño, is anticipated. Moreover, concerning issues such as drugs, electronic cigarettes, juvenile delinquency, and online scams, which are prioritized by the government, the Provincial Administrative Security Command was instructed to conduct resolute crackdowns to eliminate negative impacts on the local community and tourists. These measures are intended to enhance the sustainability of Siem Reap Province's tourism industry and improve the quality of life for its residents.
