50 Endangered Tortoises from Madagascar Intercepted at Manila Airport

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has taken custody of 50 endangered tortoises found at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). These critically endangered reptiles, native to Madagascar, are highly sought after in the illegal exotic pet trade. The smuggler faces charges for violating wildlife protection laws.
