Phnom Penh Hospital Conducts Free Eye Screenings, Surgeries in Takeo

A free eye health examination, spectacle distribution, and surgical program has been conducted in Takeo province, Cambodia, aiming to improve the health and quality of life for local residents. The initiative, held on September 19th at Preah Kabbass Referral Hospital, was organized by the ophthalmology team from Preah Ang Doung Hospital in collaboration with the Takeo Provincial Health Department. The program received support from the Fred Hollows Foundation and Bloomberg. Dr. Chhuk Mol Kosuma, Deputy Director of Preah Ang Doung Hospital and Advisor to the Ministry of Health, stated that the free eye health examinations, spectacle distribution, and surgeries are intended to alleviate the hardships faced by residents in the area. Mr. Kong Nat, Program Manager and Representative of The Fred Hollows Foundation Cambodia, emphasized that the day's activities aimed to encourage citizens with eye health problems to receive appropriate, specific, and high-quality care, including the provision of spectacles and professional surgical treatment from specialist doctors. He added that these efforts reflect the common objectives of The Fred Hollows Foundation Cambodia, the Ministry of Health's policies, the principles of the Provincial Health Department, the ophthalmology team of Preah Ang Doung Hospital, and district-level medical staff. Dr. Nhea Sithan, Deputy Director of the Provincial Health Department of Takeo Administration, stated that the Preah Kabbass Health Operational District covers 3 administrative districts and serves a population of approximately 170,000 people, with 20 health centers and 2 referral hospitals. Dr. Sithan expressed his profound gratitude to the medical team of Preah Ang Doung Hospital and The Fred Hollows Foundation Cambodia. He noted that this humanitarian campaign significantly helps reduce household expenses and provides an opportunity for individuals, especially the elderly, to regain clear vision for their daily livelihoods.
