Vietnam, Singapore to Enhance Cooperation in Semiconductors and Halal Sector
Tran Cam Tu, Permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee's Secretariat, praised the comprehensive cooperation with Singapore, calling for strengthened ties in semiconductor industry development and ASEAN Halal value chain building. Bilateral trade reflects deeper integration in supply chains.
Tran Cam Tu, Permanent member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee's Secretariat, highly valued the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore, particularly the progress in politics, economy, trade, investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges. He also emphasized the increasingly substantive and effective relations between the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the People's Action Party of Singapore (PAP). Tu mentioned the intention of both countries to strengthen cooperation in the development of the semiconductor industry. This is seen as an effort to connect Vietnam's growing role in the global semiconductor supply chain with Singapore's technological expertise. Furthermore, cooperation towards building an ASEAN Halal value chain was also indicated, which is significant in the context of Vietnam's economic strategy aiming for expanded access to Islamic markets and deeper regional economic integration. The trade relations between the two countries reflect the deepening integration of both nations within supply chains. This suggests the interdependence of Vietnam's role as a manufacturing hub and Singapore's role as a technology and financial center. Under Vietnam's one-party system, economic growth is a top priority, with attracting foreign investment and promoting international cooperation being key policy pillars. Singapore has long been an important economic partner for Vietnam, ranking high in direct investment and trade. The move to strengthen cooperation can also be interpreted as part of Vietnam's strategy to pursue economic development while maintaining geopolitical balance. Especially as relations with China become more complex, deepening ties with key ASEAN countries like Singapore holds significant meaning for Vietnam's diplomatic and economic strategy.
