Cambodia's Workforce Exceeds 13.1 Million, 69% Employed

According to the latest labor force survey conducted in 2025 by the National Institute of Statistics of Cambodia, the country's labor force has reached 13.1 million people. Of this total, 6.8 million are women and 6.3 million are men. Geographically, 7.8 million people reside in rural areas and 5.3 million in urban areas. Among the labor force aged 15 and above, 69% are employed, totaling approximately 9.1 million people. In terms of sectors, the service industry accounts for the largest share at 43%, followed by industry at 29.4%, and agriculture at 27.6%. The unemployment rate is estimated at 3.6%, affecting approximately 342,067 individuals. The average monthly income for those employed is around 1.2 million riel (equivalent to approximately 300 US dollars). These survey results serve as crucial indicators for understanding Cambodia's economic development and the structure of its labor market. The expansion of the service sector, in particular, is thought to be linked to population concentration in urban areas and increased consumer activity. Meanwhile, the significant proportion of agricultural workers still highlights the importance of the rural economy. The data on average monthly income provides insight into the living standards and purchasing power of the population.
