Vietnam, Germany Boost Cooperation in Offshore Wind and Supply Chains

Vietnam and Germany are promoting cooperation to enhance offshore wind power development and supply chains. Both countries have discussed investment opportunities in the offshore wind sector and Vietnam's government plan to achieve an offshore wind power capacity target of 17 gigawatts (GW) by 2035. During a discussion session attended by representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, offshore wind developers, equipment manufacturers, and international financial institutions, including CIP (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners), Siemens, and KfW (German Development Bank), Vietnam's offshore wind investment potential and the government's plans to attract international investment were discussed. This cooperation links Vietnam's sustainable growth strategy in the energy sector with Germany's expertise in renewable energy technology. Vietnam is accelerating its transition to renewable energy to meet increasing energy demand supporting economic growth, with offshore wind being a cornerstone. Technical transfer and financial assistance from Germany will be crucial for achieving this ambitious goal. Furthermore, both countries are exploring collaboration in areas such as high-speed railway technology transfer, practical cooperation in high-tech agriculture, and digital workforce training. These initiatives are expected to contribute to modernizing Vietnam's industrial base and enhancing its position in global supply chains. Under Vietnam's one-party system, state-led long-term development plans are prioritized. Large-scale projects like offshore wind power are often realized through strong government impetus and international partnerships. The enhanced cooperation between Germany and Vietnam can be seen as part of Vietnam's strategy to balance energy security and environmental goals while maintaining economic growth.
