LTO Fixer Arrested in Valenzuela City, Exposing Red Tape Issues

MANILA, Philippines — Police operatives caught an alleged Land Transportation Office (LTO) fixer in Valenzuela City, the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) said on Thursday. In a statement, the CIDG said it caught the suspect in front of the LTO Valenzuela District in Barangay Maysan on Tuesday afternoon, following a complaint endorsed by the Anti-Red Tape Authority. READ: CIDG nabs 3 alleged LTO fixers in Manila, Quezon City The CIDG identified the arrested suspect only by the alias “Gary,” a male 35-year-old Navotas City resident. “The agency’s standard processing period for driver’s license is three days for P7,500 payment, while the suspect asked for an overpriced processing fee of P8,500 for a one day processing period,” the police explained. “The suspect [also] alleged that he has [a] connection inside the LTO Valenzuela Office who facilitates and expedites the transactions,” it added. The arrested suspect was taken into police custody, awaiting charges for violating Republic Act No. 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act. /mr
