Cambodia to Strengthen ASEAN Observer Team's Role in Ensuring Cambodia-Thailand Ceasefire Implementation

Cambodia's Ministry of National Defense has announced its commitment to fully support and strengthen the role of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement along the Cambodia-Thailand border, aiming to foster regional peace, stability, and confidence-building within the ASEAN framework. On Monday, July 27, 2026, at 9:00 AM, Lieutenant General Pou Heng, Deputy Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army and Commander of Military Region 4, held a courtesy and working meeting with the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH). The meeting, held in Siem Reap province, was facilitated by the Coordinating Liaison Group (CLG) of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The delegation of the AOT-KH was led by Commodore GLENN Z DIZON, Head of Mission (HOM AOT), who is also a Filipino military officer based in Cambodia. During the meeting, Lieutenant General Pou Heng welcomed the AOT delegation under the Philippine mandate and expressed his profound gratitude for their unwavering commitment and diligent efforts to date in contributing to the promotion of regional peace, stability, and confidence under the ASEAN mechanism. Lieutenant General Pou Heng also briefed the AOT delegation on the recent developments concerning the Cambodia-Thailand border situation. In response, Commodore GLENN Z DIZON, HOM AOT, thanked Military Region 4 for consistently facilitating and providing convenience for all observation missions to monitor, verify, and report along the Cambodia-Thailand border after the ceasefire came into effect. He reaffirmed the team's strong commitment to fulfilling this important mission of observing, verifying, and reporting on the actual situation along the border. Cambodia consistently provides full support and strengthens the role of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) in ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, thereby promoting transparency, mutual trust, and protecting the lives of its citizens. Simultaneously, Cambodia always welcomes friendly countries to send observers or participate in peace efforts. The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia remain steadfastly committed, loyal, and highly responsible in fully and strictly adhering to and implementing the Joint Declaration of the 3rd Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) Special Meeting on December 27, 2025, the Joint Statement on the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement on October 26, 2025, and other relevant agreements.
