Vietnam's Top Leader Meets US Business Giants Amid US-China Tensions

General Secretary and President To Lam attended a roundtable discussion with major US corporations in New York on September 23 (local time). This event was part of his bilateral activities alongside his participation in the High-Level Segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The meeting focused on dialogue with US companies expecting to contribute to Vietnam's economic growth. Notably, a meeting was also held with representatives of corporations involved in the initiative to search for Vietnamese missing during the war, aiming to deepen relations through addressing historical issues. Vietnam, under its one-party system, has pursued market economy reforms and achieved remarkable economic growth in recent years. Amid escalating geopolitical tensions between the US and China, Vietnam's importance is increasing as a destination for supply chain restructuring and foreign direct investment (FDI). The General Secretary and President's meeting with major US corporations is seen as a strategic move to attract further investment and accelerate economic development, considering the current international landscape. Vietnam's economic growth has been robust, particularly in manufacturing, with active foreign investment in sectors like electronics and apparel. However, challenges such as infrastructure development delays and human resource training persist. This meeting is considered to suggest possibilities for cooperation in addressing these issues.
