Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U San Oo, conducted an inspection tour on the morning of July 20 at the Me Nyo Taung Reserved Forest along the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway, where forestry operations are being carried out by the Dry Zone Greening Department. Responsible officials explained the efforts undertaken since 2017 to create lush forest plantations in areas within the reserved forest where tree survival and growth are difficult, in order to increase forest cover. The Union Minister instructed that the successful growth conditions be maintained and protected, and that awareness be raised in villages to promote the cultivation of the Aweiya or (River Tamarind) tree, as it remains evergreen year-round, grows easily, and is useful as a nutritional supplement for animals as well as for firewood. He then departed and proceeded to inspect the survival status of trees planted at the 2025 regional-level monsoon season tree-planting ceremony in Tada-U Township. Afterward, the Union Minister arrived in the afternoon at the Myanmar Forest School in Pyin Oo Lwin, where responsible officials presented the current status of trainees attending classes, as well as plans for constructing a classroom building, trainee dormitory, and an assembly hall. The Union Minister instructed that construction work be completed on time and in compliance with standards, and inspected the site for the proposed buildings. Subsequently, the Union Minister inspected the 190-acre special greening plantation in Pyin Oo Lwin Township, and the tree planting carried out this rainy season by the Forestry Department in the watershed area of the Sin Lan (2) Reservoir project within the Taungpyo Extended Reserved Forest. Based on the presentations by responsible officials, the Union Minister provided necessary guidance, it’s reported.
