Heavy Rains Cause Flooding in Battambang, Damaging Roads and Homes

In Snuol Commune, Banan District, Battambang Province, western Cambodia, flooding caused by heavy rainfall is threatening to damage over 1,500 meters of paved roads. At least 70 homes have been submerged, and several other villages are also experiencing inundation, according to a commune council member who provided information on September 25. Mr. Ruom Ranna, a member of the Snuol Commune Council, stated that the floodwaters began to inundate Snuol Commune at 8 PM on September 25. By 12 PM on September 25, the water level had risen, flooding roads and homes in almost every village. The situation was most severe in the "Tuol Krasang" area of Sambou Meas village, Snuol Commune. Mr. Ruom Ranna further clarified that the floodwaters are currently flowing across a paved road passing through Sambou Meas village, submerging a 1,500-meter section. Additionally, 2,000 meters of red gravel roads within the village and approximately 70 homes have been flooded. Thousands of hectares of rice fields have also been inundated by the sudden surge of floodwaters, though authorities have not yet initiated any evacuations. This commune council member also indicated that several other villages within Snuol Commune are facing inundation, but local officials have not yet reported detailed information to the commune administration. Mr. Ruom Ranna added that the section of paved road where floodwaters are rapidly flowing across, in the aforementioned Tuol Krasang village area, could suffer severe damage if the rain continues unabated and the floodwaters become even stronger, potentially severing the road.
