People’s Party holds first congress in Yangon

The current period is not one of standard democracy, and therefore, building mutual understanding and trust within the party is important, said the party's patron. The first congress of the People's Party and the fourth central committee meeting were held starting at 9 AM on September 12 at the Sky Star Hotel in Yangon. During the ceremony, after saluting the national flag, saluting the People's Party flag, and reciting the People's Party pledge, three chairpersons for the congress were elected. Subsequently, a video documenting the history of the People's Party was screened, followed by a video message from the patron of the People's Party, U Ko Ko Gyi. In the video message, U Ko Ko Gyi stated that the current situation is not one of standard democracy and that everyone needs to understand this reality. "The period we are going through today, as I mentioned earlier, is a period of unusual circumstances, not standard democracy, and therefore, it is extremely important to build trust and understanding within the party," said U Ko Ko Gyi. Furthermore, U Ko Ko Gyi stated that each party member is an organizer and therefore has a responsibility for organization, and that organizing the public cannot be achieved merely by saying, "Join the People's Party, sign the application." He said that listening to the feelings and needs of the people and representing them with respect is the best form of organization. "Therefore, there are many difficulties and hardships that the people are facing today. Providing services by reflecting on and implementing what can be practically done among these is the best form of organization," said U Ko Ko Gyi. U Ko Ko Gyi urged that in order for the People's Party to overcome the current hardships, they must implement the most fundamental peace processes, reunite families who have been separated for various reasons, and work together to provide the best services to the people to quickly heal the psychological wounds that exist between individuals within the entire populace, and to continue to lead the People's Party with complete trust and understanding among themselves. Afterward, the Chairman of the People's Party, U Htay Thway, delivered the opening remarks, and U Kyaw Lin, a member of the People's Party Central Leading Committee, explained the party's policies, organizational structure, and rules. It is understood that at this congress, the current Central Committee will be dissolved, and the members of the Central Committee and the Central Executive Committee will be re-elected and approved.
