Cambodia Recognizes 91 Enterprises for Fostering Peaceful Workplaces

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training in Cambodia has recognized 91 enterprises and factories with the "Peaceful Community Enterprise" award over the past three years under the administration of Prime Minister Hun Manet. This initiative specifically targets the textile, garment, footwear, travel goods, and bag manufacturing sectors. According to Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, the 91 recipients include 49 gold awards, 23 silver awards, and 19 bronze awards. He emphasized that these awards not only commend enterprises for their compliance but also encourage them to further strengthen labor law implementation, improve working conditions, and foster a safe, peaceful, and highly productive work environment. The Ministry views a peaceful work environment and good professional relations as beneficial not only to employees but also for enhancing production stability, reducing labor disputes, and boosting the confidence of employers and investors. The "Peaceful Community Enterprise" campaign originates from recommendations by former Prime Minister Hun Sen and has been further promoted by Prime Minister Hun Manet, who urged business owners during a meeting with workers in 2023 to continue focusing on labor law compliance, improving working conditions, worker welfare, and strengthening professional relations. The campaign is set to be officially implemented in 2025, with the annual "Peaceful Community Enterprise" award presented to businesses in the textile, garment, footwear, travel goods, and bag manufacturing sectors, based on eight criteria of compliance. Furthermore, the government has designated May 1st as the annual award day to recognize high-performing enterprises and encourage others to enhance their labor law compliance, working conditions, and professional relationships. Over the past three years of Prime Minister Hun Manet's administration, the number of enterprises registered with the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training has increased from approximately 40,300 to 47,758, marking a rise of 7,458 enterprises, or about 18.5 percent.
