Fire in 6-Story Building in Poipet, One Room Damaged, Cause Unknown

A fire broke out in a six-story building in Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province, in northwestern Cambodia. The incident occurred around noon on September 15, 2026, in a first-floor unit of the building, which was locked and had a "for rent" sign displayed. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Upon notification, two fire trucks responded to the scene. Firefighting efforts were supported by police, gendarmerie, and military forces, who worked to extinguish the blaze. Thanks to the timely intervention, the fire was contained to one room, damaging its contents, and preventing further spread. Fortunately, the room affected by the fire was unoccupied. According to fire officials, the building's owner unlocked the premises to allow emergency services access. The building's electricity was reportedly switched off at the breaker, and the unit was locked as it was awaiting tenants. The sudden outbreak of fire was unexpected. Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the fire. Two fire trucks were deployed, and one truck's water supply was utilized during the operation. The material damage was limited to the contents of a single room. Poipet City is a significant economic hub located on the border with Thailand.
