Flash flood in Grand Canyon National Park leaves about 15 missing

A flash flood occurred suddenly within the Grand Canyon National Park in the United States, and about 15 people are missing, the National Park Service announced. Video records taken by hikers show that puddles were flowing under the walking paths and footbridges, and logs and debris were also seen floating with the water. The flash flood began around 2:30 PM on Saturday due to heavy rainfall on the Kaibab Plateau, and flooded the Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch areas. Although it was initially estimated that more than 20 people were missing, it was later confirmed that about 15 people were missing. Rescue operations are currently underway in cooperation with Arizona state authorities. As of Sunday morning, 62 people have been evacuated to safety, and plans are being made to evacuate the remaining people. Officials said that no casualties have been reported yet due to the incident. There is a possibility of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall until Monday, and warnings have been issued about the potential for subsequent flash floods, rockfalls, and landslides. The main water pipeline supplying the park has been damaged by the flood, and water conservation has been called for, while the use of wood, charcoal, and fire has been prohibited.
