Cambodia Busts Online Scam Hub in Bavet, Arrests 8 Suspects

In Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia, a location suspected of engaging in technology-based fraud was raided, resulting in the arrest of eight suspects. The operation was carried out as part of a provincial campaign to crack down on online crimes, under the directives of the Director General of National Police and the Governor of Svay Rieng Province. On July 26, 2024, the Provincial Police Chief, leading specialized police forces in cooperation with the Bavet City Police Inspectorate, conducted an investigation at a rented villa located in Bavet Kandal Village, Bavet Sangkat, Bavet City. The investigation identified a suspected hub for online scams, leading to the apprehension of eight Vietnamese nationals (three females). Seized items believed to be involved in the criminal activities include All-In-One desktop computers, mobile phones, and other related equipment. Currently, the suspects and the seized evidence are undergoing legal proceedings at the Provincial Court. The premises where the crimes were allegedly committed have been temporarily sealed.
