Northern Vietnam Braces for Heavy Rains as Tropical Depression Intensifies

Northern and North Central Vietnam are expected to experience continuous heavy rainfall on August 5, as a tropical depression has intensified into the third typhoon of the year. The capital city, Hanoi, is also forecast to be affected by strong rain and thunderstorms. While the tropical depression has strengthened over the East Sea, it is not predicted to directly impact Vietnam's coastal areas or mainland. However, the risk of flash floods, landslides, and widespread inundation remains high in the northern mountainous regions and river basins. Vietnam experiences a monsoon season throughout the year, with heavy rains being frequent in the north during this period. Meteorological authorities are urging residents to closely monitor the latest weather updates and take necessary safety precautions. Over the past few days, rainfall has been observed across various parts of Vietnam. On August 4, widespread rain occurred nationwide, with some areas experiencing very heavy downpours. On August 3, localized heavy rains were also reported in the northern regions, as well as in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces. In preparation for the rainy and typhoon season, the Vietnamese government has instructed local authorities and relevant agencies to remain vigilant and prepared for disaster response.
