Pin U Lwin-Gokteik train service to resume weekly from Saturday after temporary suspension due to flood

Due to heavy rainfall, the railway line between Naungcho and Gokteik was flooded and submerged. However, as the line has now been repaired, the temporary suspension of the up and down train services between Pin U Lwin and Gokteik will be resumed on a weekly basis starting next Saturday. On August 31, Union Minister for Transport and Communications, U Myo Tun Oo, accompanied by the Deputy Minister, the Minister for Industry, Electricity and Transport of Mandalay Region, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, and responsible officials, rode an RBE train from Pin U Lwin Station to Gokteik Station and inspected the railway line between Pin U Lwin and Gokteik. During the inspection, the Union Minister instructed that bushes along the railway line be cleared, weeds and grass be removed, drainage channels be constructed to ensure good water flow and prevent water from pooling on either side of the railway in mountainous areas, and measures be taken to prevent the railway line from being covered by soil from landslides, and that a properly constructed stone-lined drain be put in place to ensure good water flow to prevent water from overflowing onto the railway line near Bridge No. 232 between Naungcho and Gokteik stations due to mountain runoff. Furthermore, upon arrival at Gokteik Station, it was instructed that renovations be carried out to improve the cleanliness of the station and the condition of the staff quarters, that additional soil be added to the right side of the bridge entrance on the Pin U Lwin side of the bridge, that maintenance be carried out to prevent damage to the RBE train's ride over the historic Gokteik Bridge, the painting and repair work for the bridge's strength and tidiness, and the fencing work around the bridge piers, that drainage outlets be created on the bridge deck where water is accumulating, and that corroded truss members of the bridge be replaced.
