La Union Warns Against AI-Generated Images Using Police Uniforms, Insignia

CALASIAO, Pangasinan — The provincial government of La Union has warned against creating, sharing or using artificial intelligence (AI)-generated images depicting individuals wearing police uniforms. It also cautions against the use of insignia, identification cards or other official markings of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Provincial Resolution No. 2463-2026 said the unabated proliferation of misleading visuals. The province noted that AI-generated images can spread rapidly, especially through social media. It expressed concern that the misuse of these images could mislead the public and damage the reputation and credibility of the PNP. Specifically, there is a risk of fabricated images showing police officers engaging in criminal acts or inappropriate behavior, which could be used to manipulate public opinion or incite social unrest. The La Union provincial government emphasized that the creation, dissemination, and use of such AI-generated images significantly undermine the authority and trustworthiness of the PNP as a law enforcement agency. It urged the public to exercise ethical responsibility in using AI technology and to cooperate in preventing the spread of disinformation. This warning reflects the rapid advancement of AI technology in the Philippines and the increasing need for measures to combat misinformation.
