Vietnam Strengthens Ties with Overseas Compatriots to Accelerate Growth

Vietnam is positioning the contributions of its overseas Vietnamese compatriots (Kieu Bao) as a crucial element in the nation's transition to a new era of development. The government advocates for maximizing the human resources of overseas Vietnamese, from their pioneering role in foreign affairs to their function as a driving force for local development. In line with this approach, the 'Vietnam Summer Camp 2026' is planned to be held for Vietnamese youth and students residing abroad, serving as an opportunity to deepen connections between the younger generation of compatriots and their homeland. Furthermore, initiatives to strengthen collaboration are underway to promote the participation of overseas compatriots in the construction and development of Hanoi during its new developmental phase. This aligns with the Vietnamese Communist Party leadership's commitment to continuously improve policies for overseas Vietnamese. Additionally, the inauguration of the Vietnamese Honorary Consulate Office in Phuket, Thailand, is a symbolic event showcasing the expansion of Vietnam's network abroad. These honorary consulates are expected to play the role of an 'extended arm' accompanying the nation as it moves into a new era. Under Vietnam's one-party system, mobilizing the Vietnamese communities both domestically and internationally is a key policy objective in the nation's development strategy. Sustaining economic growth necessitates the introduction of foreign investment, knowledge, and technology, and Kieu Bao can serve as a vital bridge in this regard. Amidst its complex relationship with China, Vietnam is pursuing a strategy of strengthening ties with its extensive overseas compatriots, alongside domestic resource utilization, to enhance economic independence and its presence in the international community.
