Nonthaburi police have arrested a 43-year-old man, identified as Kraisi, also known as 'Toon,' from Nakhon Si Thammarat province, along with his 19-year-old son-in-law, Sid. They were apprehended near the Thai Watsadu building materials store on Chaeng Watthana Road, accused of transporting approximately 5 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden within mala tang (spicy hot pot) boxes. The seized vehicle was a 2018 Ford Everest, originally red but repainted grey. The methamphetamine was found packaged in 1-kilogram bags of Guanyin tea, concealed inside five boxes of spicy vegetarian mala tang. The incident began around 9:18 PM on June 28th when patrol officers on motorcycles spotted a suspicious vehicle near a disused gas station on Ngamwongwan Road. When the vehicle attempted to flee, a chase ensued. The suspect's car entered the expressway but made a sudden turn, colliding with the police van pursuing it, causing significant damage to both vehicles. One police officer sustained injuries to his left leg and right hand and was taken to the hospital. During initial questioning, Kraisi confessed that he was driving from Nakhon Si Thammarat and picked up the package in Phetchaburi province. He stated he panicked upon realizing the illegal contraband in his car and attempted to escape. He claimed the vehicle was lent to him for free by an individual named 'Akeasit,' whom he met while serving time in prison. Kraisi mentioned he was released from prison approximately four months ago after serving a sentence for attempted murder. Kraisi denied receiving payment for the transport, stating he acted out of friendship with Akeasit. His son-in-law, Sid, who was a passenger, claimed he was merely accompanying Kraisi after being dropped off by him and was inadvertently caught up in the situation.
