Continuous rains brought by the trough of Tropical Storm Kiyapo caused rivers to swell at Milagros town in Masbate province on Friday morning (July 24). Lt. Col. Michael Lorilla, head of the Masbate 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company, said some of their personnel carried students across the overflowing Tajam Bridge in Zone 5 in Barangay (village) Tagbon. Police officers also lifted and carried residents’ motorcycles so they could safely cross the flooded bridge at around 10:30 a.m. READ: Kiyapo putting 6,947 barangays at risk of landslides, floods — OCD Authorities reminded the public to exercise caution and avoid passing through flooded areas. Earlier, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported that heavy rains were affecting the towns of Milagros and Cawayan in Masbate, as well as the towns of Santa Elena, Capalonga, Jose Panganiban, Labo and Paracale in Camarines Norte. /das
