Cayetano didn't say VP Sara should face impeachment court; quote card is fake

A fabricated quote card claiming Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said Vice President Sara Duterte should personally face the impeachment court has been circulating on social media. The quote card, featuring Cayetano's photo and a logo of a supposed news outlet "PH Daily Inquiry," alleged that "Her employees are treating us like fools." However, Cayetano himself debunked the quote card on his Facebook page on September 6, stating that the quote was fabricated and did not represent his personal stance against the Vice President or her defense. He emphasized the need for senator-judges to remain impartial and neutral throughout the impeachment trial and warned against the use of AI-generated images and fabricated quotes to mislead the public, urging scrutiny and verification of information. The impeachment trial concerning allegations of misuse of confidential funds by the Vice President is currently underway. At the start of the September 8 trial, the prosecution announced its intention to call Duterte as a witness regarding the use and misuse of confidential funds, as outlined in Article 1 of the impeachment articles. The defense opposed this move, citing the constitutional right against self-incrimination. Duterte was impeached by the House of Representatives in May 2026 on grounds including betrayal of public trust, culpable violation of the Constitution, bribery, graft and corruption, and other high crimes.
