Cambodia Launches Over $1.2 Billion Comprehensive Crisis Response Program

The Cambodian government has officially launched a "Comprehensive Intervention Program (CIP)" valued at $1.24 billion to address the multifaceted crises stemming from global economic disruptions. This initiative aims to respond to the impacts affecting rural household incomes, commerce, production, remittances, and family welfare, driven by global and regional factors. To support the CIP, the World Bank is implementing a "Contingent Emergency Response Component (CER)" within several existing projects, enabling the rapid redirection of funds to the most urgent priorities. This is expected to create thousands of local jobs, particularly in communities with a high concentration of poor and vulnerable households. Specific activities include vocational training programs, community-led school construction, rural road improvements, and the restoration of irrigation systems. Faya Hayati, Acting Country Manager for Cambodia at the World Bank, emphasized the program's significance, stating, "Employment is not just a source of income. It provides security, opportunity, and dignity. In times of economic uncertainty, protecting and creating jobs helps people secure their livelihoods and their future."
