Cambodia Faces Dual Tropical Low-Pressure Impact: Warnings Issued for Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms, and Gusts

Cambodia is bracing for the impact of two tropical low-pressure systems, as the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology announced the approach of a new system, Tropical Low-Pressure System Kujira (T2614), while Tropical Storm Dolphin (T2613) still lingers. These combined systems are expected to bring rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds to many parts of Cambodia from August 5th to August 15th. According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, Tropical Low-Pressure System Kujira developed from a low-pressure area over the South China Sea. Alongside Tropical Storm Dolphin, it is significantly influencing the Southwest Monsoon that blows over the Bay of Bengal, Andaman Sea, South China Sea, Mekong River basin, Cambodian Sea, and the entire Kingdom of Cambodia. However, the Kingdom of Cambodia itself is not directly in the path of these two storms. The meteorological forecast indicates the following impacts across different regions from August 5th to August 15th: Lowland areas, including the provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Pursat, Kampong Chhnang, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tboung Khmum, Prey Veng, Kandal, Takeo, Svay Rieng, and Phnom Penh capital, may experience rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms covering approximately 50% of their land area. Highland areas, encompassing Kampong Speu, Pailin, Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, the Dangrek Mountains, and the Cardamom Mountains, could see rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms affecting about 60% of their land area. Coastal areas, including Koh Kong, Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep, and the Bokor Mountain region, are likely to experience rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms covering approximately 70% of their land area. Coastal waves are expected to be strong, with average heights ranging from a minimum of 0.50 meters to a maximum of 1.75 meters.
