A new international school has opened in Svay Rieng province, Cambodia, signaling growing private sector investment in the nation's education sector, which is supported by the government. The initiative is expected to contribute to improving educational quality and human resource development.
A new international school, Westlane International School Svay Rieng Branch (16th Branch), has officially opened in Svay Rieng province, Cambodia. This opening signifies the growing private sector investment in the country's education sector, a trend strongly supported by the government. Presiding over the inauguration ceremony was His Excellency Men Sam An, High Advisor to His Majesty the King. According to Mr. Pich Bolen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Westlane Education Group, the institution has experienced significant growth since its inception in 2008. Starting with just 600 students and 70 staff, the group now operates 30 branches, employing over 1,600 staff and educating more than 16,000 students. Mr. Bolen highlighted the integration of new knowledge from abroad into the school's curriculum, focusing on life skills and digital literacy, and emphasized the long-term investment potential in Cambodia's education sector. His Excellency Peng Porsal, Governor of Svay Rieng Province, noted that education at Westlane not only imparts knowledge but also fosters the development of professional ethics, virtues, and high moral character. He expressed deep gratitude to Mr. Pich Bolen for recognizing the potential in the education sector and investing in the establishment of a school in Svay Rieng. During his address, His Excellency Men Sam An commended the dedication and commitment of Mr. Pich Bolen, the shareholders, and the management of Westlane Education Group for expanding their investment and bringing international-standard educational services to Svay Rieng province. He stated that the establishment of Westlane International School Svay Rieng Branch demonstrates a commitment to providing children and youth in the province and surrounding areas with access to international-standard education. This includes a modern learning environment, qualified teachers, and a curriculum focused on developing knowledge, skills, leadership, and preparing students to be global citizens in line with the demands of the 21st century. His Excellency Men Sam An expressed confidence that the Westlane International School Svay Rieng Branch will become a model educational institution, significantly contributing to the development of quality human resources for Svay Rieng province and the nation. He further remarked that the school's growth is a testament to the excellent cooperation between the government and the private sector in enhancing educational quality and human resource development, which are crucial foundations for sustainable national socio-economic development. He voiced his full support for private sector investment in education in Cambodia, anticipating that the opening of this new branch will contribute to the implementation of the first phase of the "Pentagon Strategy" under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, particularly aligning with the four approaches: People, Road, Water, Fire, and Digital. Finally, His Excellency Men Sam An stressed the importance of continuous quality improvement by the school's management, teachers, and staff. He urged them to not only provide knowledge, technology, and foreign languages but also to cultivate "discipline, ethics, virtues, and patriotism" among students, transforming the school into a nurturing ground for good citizens. He also appealed to parents and guardians to maintain close cooperation with the school, emphasizing that educating and building a child's future is a shared responsibility requiring parental involvement, encouragement, and warmth within the family.
