Prak Sokhonn Attends UN General Assembly, Emphasizing Multilateralism and Development

PHNOM PENH, Sept 24, 2026 (KPT) — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn has departed for New York to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the foreign ministry said Thursday. Sokhonn is leading Cambodia’s delegation to the annual high‑level debate, held from Sept 22–28, where he is expected to deliver the country’s national statement outlining positions on regional and global issues. According to the ministry, he will stress the importance of multilateralism and call for a stronger, more effective UN system to address international challenges. The foreign minister is also scheduled to highlight Cambodia’s development priorities, including its commitment to sustainable and inclusive economic growth. During his visit, Sokhonn will hold bilateral meetings with foreign counterparts to discuss relations, peace and security, and sustainable development. The UN General Assembly’s general debate brings together leaders and senior officials from member states to set out their governments’ priorities and exchange views on pressing international issues. Officials said Sokhonn’s participation reflects Cambodia’s efforts to engage with partners on regional and global challenges through the UN and other multilateral forums.
