Thai Gunman Arrested in Poipet Shooting, Drugs Seized; Revenge Motive Suspected

A Thai couple has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident in Poipet city, western Cambodia. Local police announced the seizure of two firearms and a large quantity of drugs from the scene. According to local media Kampuchea Thmey Security, the arrested individuals are the husband and wife, identified as Parawat Thong Mean (26, male) and Jomthong Suphaporn (27, female), both Thai nationals. Parawat allegedly confessed that the shooting was an act of revenge against the victim, Jusuwan Thongchai (Thai national), who had assaulted him on July 14th of this year. He admitted to using firearms obtained from an acquaintance for the crime. The incident occurred around 6:30 PM on July 29th in Poipet city. Authorities apprehended the couple shortly after the incident. The seized firearms include a RUGER MK4 (firing .22LR ammunition) and a COLT 911 (firing .45ACP ammunition). In addition, 9 rounds of .22LR ammunition, 85 rounds of .45ACP ammunition, and a significant amount of illegal drugs were discovered. Police are continuing their investigation, stating that another Thai national named "Keb" is involved in the incident and remains at large. The arrested couple is expected to be transferred to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Police for further legal proceedings. Poipet city, located on the border with Thailand, is known for its numerous casinos and commercial establishments. In recent years, criminal activities such as drug trafficking and fraud by Thai criminal organizations have been on the rise in the area, prompting Cambodian authorities to strengthen enforcement in cooperation with Thai counterparts. This incident exemplifies cross-border criminal activities and the response of Cambodian authorities. The occurrence of a revenge killing also raises concerns about public safety in the region.
