Flood Warnings Issued for Mekong and Dong Nai Rivers; Vietnam Faces Widespread Flooding

Flood warnings have been issued for the Mekong and Dong Nai river basins in southern Vietnam. Water levels upstream of the Mekong River are slowly rising, and combined with the high tide season, water levels in the Mekong Delta region are trending upwards. Currently, the water level of the Dong Nai River at the Ta Lai station in Dong Nai province is slowly rising and is above alarm level 2. In the northern province of Bac Ninh, floods in the lower reaches of the Luc Nam and Thuong rivers are increasing rapidly, with 37 communes and wards facing the risk of flooding. Water levels in many areas of the province have risen, affecting residents' lives. Quang Ninh province has also experienced flooding and inundation in some areas due to heavy rainfall. The Vietnamese government has instructed these regions to strengthen their preparedness for heavy rain, floods, flash floods, and landslides. Enhancing disaster response capabilities is an urgent task. Vietnam's geography, with much of its territory being low-lying and the vast Mekong Delta in the south, inherently makes it prone to floods and inundation. The increasing frequency of extreme weather events due to climate change also exacerbates these disasters. The government is striving to mitigate damage through infrastructure development, strengthening early warning systems, and conducting evacuation drills for residents.
