Australian Man Suspected of Killing Two Children, Then Committing Suicide in Bali

An Australian national, 57, was found dead along with his two young children, aged 7 and 4, in a bungalow in Legian, Bali. The man was discovered hanging, while the children were found deceased. Police are investigating the strong suspicion that the man killed his children before taking his own life. According to local police, the incident occurred around 10:14 AM on Sunday, September 13, at a cottage in the Legian area of Kuta District. The deceased have been identified as SDJ, an Australian national (57), and his two children, Indonesian nationals aged 7 and 4. Investigators believe SDJ allegedly killed his children before committing suicide. The children were found lying on the floor of the room, while SDJ was found hanging from a window frame. Police are awaiting the results of medical examinations to confirm the cause of death. The incident began around 8:30 AM on September 13, when an acquaintance received a call from the victim's wife, who claimed to be in Jakarta. She requested a welfare check on her husband and children, as they could not be reached. Upon visiting the bungalow and receiving no response, the acquaintance, along with the cottage owner and local residents, forced the door open and discovered the bodies. Preliminary on-site investigations by the police suggest the children died from assault, while SDJ died by hanging. The bodies have been transported to Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar for further examination. Analysis of CCTV footage and the wife's testimony indicate that SDJ may have had mental health issues. The wife testified about a marital dispute in 2022, though she stated their recent relationship was good. It has also been revealed that SDJ had previously attempted suicide. The wife has refused an autopsy for her husband and children.
