Rainy Season Continues Across Vietnam, Northern Region Sees Sunny Spells

Throughout the week from September 20th to 26th, Vietnam is expected to be dominated by thunderstorms due to the rainy season. However, the northern region may see some sunny spells. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the northern and north-central regions will experience sunny days, with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely in the evenings and at night. Along the south-central coast, from Quang Tri province to Hue city, rain and thunderstorms are forecast, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall, particularly in the afternoons. In the Central Highlands and southern regions, moderate to heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving very heavy downpours, is expected from the night of September 21st to 22nd, followed by scattered showers. These rains will primarily occur in the afternoons and evenings. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind. Southern regions and Ho Chi Minh City, in particular, are anticipating widespread heavy rainfall during this period, with the total rainfall for the entire event potentially reaching up to 180mm. While Vietnam continues its economic growth under its one-party system, the impact of climate change and extreme weather events poses increasing risks to its infrastructure and the daily lives of its citizens.
