Cambodia Enhances Conservation Efforts at Koh Kapi Ramsar Site

To strengthen the management, patrol, and biodiversity monitoring at the Koh Kapi Ramsar site, NatureLife Cambodia has provided patrol boats and equipment to rangers and communities in two protected areas: Koh Kapi Community and Koh Slaey Community. NatureLife Cambodia officials stated on September 22, 2026, that the handover took place in mid-September 2026. This initiative is part of the "Enhancing Coastal Communities to Participate in Biodiversity Conservation and Green Livelihoods in the Koh Kapi Ramsar Site" project, supported by the 30x30 Southeast Asia Ocean Fund. The event was attended by 26 participants, including representatives from the Ministry of Environment of Koh Kong Province, the Director of the Koh Kapi Ramsar Site, park rangers, and community committee members. Through this support, park rangers of the Koh Kapi Ramsar site received one motorized boat, one camera, one telescope, one pair of binoculars, and one field guide to birds. Additionally, the Koh Kapi and Koh Slaey protected area communities each received a pair of binoculars and a bird field guide. These materials will enhance the capacity of park rangers and communities to effectively patrol, monitor biodiversity, and record bird data. Specifically, they will support regular bird monitoring within the Koh Kapi Ramsar site, contributing to the recording and knowledge enhancement about birds in this important wetland. The Koh Kapi Ramsar site is located along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway and is a crucial area for shorebirds and migratory birds. The provision of patrol equipment will better equip the rangers and the two communities for patrolling and monitoring bird presence during the upcoming migratory season, thus contributing effectively and sustainably to the management and conservation of biodiversity in the Koh Kapi Ramsar site.
