Taxi driver shot dead and car stolen in Naypyidaw, perpetrator arrested and identified as anti-human trafficking deputy police chief

AYEYARWADDY TIMES September 8 It has been learned that a police officer from the provisional government's anti-human trafficking force was arrested yesterday, September 7, for shooting dead a taxi driver and stealing his car in Naypyidaw. Deputy Police Chief Ye Ye Aung from the anti-human trafficking force had hired a taxi for 400,000 kyats to travel from Naypyidaw's central market to Meiktila city around 4:30 PM on September 6. He then shot the driver, Ko Win Ko, with a revolver near Kan Gyi Gone village, on the outskirts of Meiktila city, and fled with the vehicle. The perpetrator, Deputy Police Chief Ye Ye Aung, was apprehended early yesterday morning, September 7, near the Bogathiri roundabout in Naypyidaw, according to police sources. "The police officer from the anti-human trafficking force shot the Naypyidaw taxi driver and stole the car. On the day of the incident, he was on his way to Meiktila, where his girlfriend lives, when he committed the robbery. After the robbery, due to checkpoints, he left the car somewhere and returned to Naypyidaw, where he was caught near the Bogathiri roundabout. He hasn't been in Naypyidaw for long. He is currently being interrogated at the No. 3 police station," a police source told the Ayeyarwaddy Times. It has been learned that the arrested individual is a deputy police chief from the provisional government's police force's anti-human trafficking unit, who had recently completed his training. Currently, the perpetrator, Deputy Police Chief Ye Ye Aung, has been charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code at the Meiktila City Police Station (P) 149/2026, and the police have not yet released any information regarding the perpetrator.
