US-ASEAN Business Council Praises Cambodia's Efforts to Improve Investment Climate

On July 22, 2026, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Aun Pornmoniroth, met with Brian D. McFeeters, President of the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC). The meeting was attended by representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, representatives from 13 American companies including SC Johnson, Ford Motor, ConocoPhillips, Target, and Coca-Cola, as well as officials from the Cambodian Ministry of Economy and Finance. Deputy Prime Minister Aun expressed gratitude for the cooperation between Cambodia and the United States in strengthening economic and trade relations, and for the continued expansion of investment by American multinational corporations in Cambodia. In 2025, the total trade volume between the two countries reached approximately $13 billion, with U.S. investment amounting to around $1 billion. This reflects the strength of the economic and trade ties between the two nations, contributing to Cambodia's macroeconomic stability and the maintenance of its public financial sustainability in the medium to long term. The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated Cambodia's welcoming stance towards high-value-added investments, particularly in priority and high-potential sectors such as agro-industry, clean energy, digital, logistics, healthcare, education, and advanced technology. Meanwhile, President Brian D. McFeeters highly praised the Cambodian government's efforts in resolving various challenges related to the investment environment. He noted significant improvements in Cambodia's investment and business climate over the past two years of his tenure. McFeeters encouraged companies operating in Cambodia to raise any new challenges they are facing and urged companies seeking investment opportunities to inquire about Cambodia's investment potential. During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister responded to specific requests and challenges raised by the 13 American companies and provided an update on the government's ongoing structural reforms. These include simplifying administrative procedures to facilitate business, promoting the digitalization of public services, strengthening compliance to ensure fair and equal competition, and particularly encouraging collaboration with the government through mechanisms like the "Legislation, Taxation, and Governance Working Group" of the Government-Private Sector Forum to effectively, timely, and predictably address policy changes. President McFeeters pledged to convey information and firsthand insights on Cambodia's economic situation, especially its business environment, back to Washington D.C. to further attract U.S. investment and business, thereby reflecting the positive developments and dynamism in Cambodia. This is expected to further strengthen the economic and trade relations between the two countries.
