Cambodia: Persistent Rains Cause Road Flooding, Authorities Clear Drains

Persistent heavy rainfall in Cambodia has led to widespread road flooding, significantly impacting residents' daily lives and transportation. On July 31, 2026, authorities in Tror Peak village, Chom Chov 3 commune, Por Sen Chey district, conducted drain cleaning operations to improve water drainage. Mr. Sao Sarin, the village chief of Tror Peak, stated that following instructions from Mr. Sok Chankagnarith, the governor of Por Sen Chey district, and Mr. Vaa Savon, the commune chief of Chom Chov 3, to organize the environment and sanitation, particularly addressing the issue of garbage, the operation was carried out. Several days of rain had caused flooding on Road 114A, affecting the movement of residents and vendors in the area. Therefore, the village chief led a team to clear garbage from the drainage system, aiming to facilitate faster water flow and expedite the receding of floodwaters from the road. The Tror Peak village authorities are appealing to all residents to properly dispose of their garbage and avoid throwing it into the drainage system, thereby preventing blockages and reducing road flooding.
