VP Sara Yet to Request Withdrawal of Security Detail Amidst Reported Loss of Trust
Vice President Sara Duterte has not yet formally requested the withdrawal of her security detail, despite reports of a loss of trust and confidence. Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro stated that while the VP has the right to request their removal, no such request has been received.
Vice President Sara Duterte has yet to request the withdrawal of her assigned security detail, despite reports of her loss of trust and confidence in them, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro said on Thursday. "I have not received anything," Teodoro said in an ambush interview when asked if Duterte already requested the withdrawal of her security detail. Teodoro said Duterte has the right to request their withdrawal if she no longer trusts them, noting that the provision of security by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is a courtesy and privilege. "She can ask for them to be withdrawn if there is a loss of trust and confidence," Teodoro said. Asked if Duterte could choose specific AFP or Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel to replace her current security detail, Teodoro said he himself does not choose the soldiers assigned to him. "Normally, I don't choose those assigned to me. That's how much I trust Filipino soldiers," he said. Teodoro pointed out that military personnel assigned to security duties are mission-trained and there should be no personal considerations in their deployment. —RF, GMA News
