Cambodia and Malaysia Deepen Ties at Joint Commission Meeting

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia and Malaysia have launched the third meeting of their Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) in Kuala Lumpur, seeking to deepen ties across trade, security and people‑to‑people exchanges. The talks were co‑chaired Tuesday by Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn and Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan. Delegations from ministries and agencies of both countries joined discussions covering trade and investment, agriculture, education, defence, labour, tourism and cultural cooperation. Officials said the meeting reaffirmed both sides’ commitment to strengthening relations and agreed to work closely to ensure effective implementation of initiatives. The JCBC serves as the main mechanism for advancing bilateral cooperation and setting priorities for future engagement. At the conclusion of the talks, Sokhonn and Hasan signed the Agreed Minutes of the third JCBC meeting, providing a roadmap for joint action in the coming years. Later Tuesday, Hasan hosted an official luncheon in honour of Sokhonn and the Cambodian delegation, underscoring the importance both governments place on the partnership. The JCBC was first convened in 2012 and has since become a platform for expanding cooperation between the two Southeast Asian nations. Officials said the latest meeting demonstrated a shared commitment to building stronger economic and political ties, while promoting regional stability and prosperity.
