Derf Jay Maquinta, spokesperson for the Zamboanga del Sur Police Provincial Office, said a black Skygo 175 motorcycle with a sidecar, driven by a 16-year-old with a 17-year-old back rider, reportedly lost control and swerved into the opposite lane, colliding head-on with a black Toyota Fortuner driven by a 69-year-old retired physician from Panaon, Misamis Occidental. Despite the SUV driver’s attempt to steer toward the shoulder of the road, the collision was unavoidable. The impact also struck the four-year-old child, who was walking along the roadside. The child sustained severe injuries and was declared dead on arrival at Mahayag Municipal Hospital. In a separate incident, a 70-year-old woman was injured after she was hit by a motorcycle while walking along the provincial road in Barangay Poblacion, Lapuyan, at around 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 5. Police said the victim was accidentally struck by a Honda XRM motorcycle driven by a 21-year-old resident. She sustained chest and head injuries and was taken to the Lapuyan Rural Health Unit for treatment. The rider was unharmed, while the motorcycle was placed under police custody. Later that evening, at around 7:35 p.m., a 44-year-old CVO member was killed in a collision between two motorcycles in Barangay Bambung Daku, Ramon Magsaysay town. Investigators said the victim was on his way home from a family gathering when his Honda XRM motorcycle collided with another motorcycle driven by a 16-year-old coming from the opposite direction. The CVO member suffered severe head injuries and was declared dead on arrival at Blancia Hospital in Molave. The minor sustained minor bruises and was taken into police custody before being turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
