Cambodia Reviews Progress on Grai Dam Irrigation System Rehabilitation Project

Mr. Chan Yuttha, Secretary of State and Program Director of WAT4CAM Phase 1, representing H.E. Thong Cheath, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, led a technical working group to inspect the progress of the Grai Dam Irrigation System Rehabilitation and Modernization Project (CW-19) in Krang village and Kampong Chen Cheung commune, Stueng district, Kampong Thom province on the morning of Wednesday, September 23, 2026. As of September 21, 2026, the project's implementation progress has reached approximately 20%. Key achievements include the construction of nine concrete canals with a total length of 7,100 meters, ten pipe canals with a total length of 9,208 meters, one pumping station, 181 artistic structures (with two completed and others being prepared for commencement), and one community house. The Grai Dam irrigation system is being developed into a complete water distribution system with the potential to supply and irrigate a total of 942 hectares of agricultural land. Upon completion, it will also support the cultivation of mixed crops and water-saving crops during the dry season. This project is expected to directly benefit a total of 1,547 households in seven villages across two communes in Stueng district: 922 households in Krang commune and 625 households in Kampong Chen Cheung commune. The project's outcomes will significantly contribute to improving the efficiency of water management, supply, and distribution to farms, thereby increasing agricultural productivity and progressively enhancing the livelihoods of farmers in the area.
