ASEAN Observers Visit Civilian Damage Site Near Cambodia-Thailand Border

The Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia announced that on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 08:30 AM, the ASEAN Observer Team – Cambodia (AOT-KH) conducted an observation, verification, and reporting mission at the northern Sre Aem village, Sre Aem commune, Jam Ksan district, Preah Vihear province. This location is identified as a residential area for innocent civilians. It is noted that the aforementioned site is not a military location but a residence of innocent civilians. The area reportedly suffered significant damage to homes, property, and civilian infrastructure due to attacks by Thai military forces in December 2025, including bombing by F-16 fighter jets and shelling with 155mm artillery rounds. Cambodia consistently provides full support to the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) and emphasizes its indispensable role in strengthening AOT's mandate to verify and ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire, thereby promoting transparency, accountability, and mutual trust. The Cambodian government and the Ministry of National Defense reiterate their firm, sincere, and highly responsible commitment to fully and strictly abide by the Joint Declaration of the 3rd Extraordinary Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the Joint Statement on the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement on October 26, 2025, and other related agreements, aiming for rapid improvement and a return to long-term peace, stability, and normalcy.
