Cambodia-Indonesia Trade Surges 33% to $935M Amid Push for Deeper Ties

PHNOM PENH, Sept 21, 2026 (KPT) — Cambodia–Indonesia bilateral trade rose 33 percent to $935 million in the first eight months of 2026, underscoring growing economic ties as both countries push for deeper business and investment cooperation. The figures were announced at the opening of “SOUSDEY INDONESIA 2026” at Phnom Penh’s Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Center on Sept 19. The event was presided over by Acting Commerce Minister Kem Sithan, representing Minister Cham Nimul, alongside Indonesian Chargé d’Affaires Krishnajie Partadireja, senior officials, diplomats and guests. Sithan said Indonesia remains a key trading partner, with bilateral commerce exceeding $1 billion in both 2024 and 2025. The $935 million recorded so far this year puts trade close to that level again, while the sharp increase reflects expanding exchanges in agriculture, manufacturing, energy and consumer goods. The SOUSDEY INDONESIA event was designed to strengthen ties by encouraging greater private‑sector engagement, cultural exchanges and investment opportunities. Cambodian officials stressed the importance of closer interaction between investors to identify new areas of cooperation. The Commerce Ministry said the event provided a platform for public and private‑sector representatives, diplomatic missions and other stakeholders to exchange insights and promote economic ties. With trade already surpassing $1 billion annually in recent years, both sides are seeking to build momentum through stronger business links and institutional support, reinforcing Indonesia’s role as one of Cambodia’s most important ASEAN partners.
