Vietnam Awards Friendship Order to Austria–Vietnam Society, Honorary President

Vietnam has awarded the Friendship Order to the Austria–Vietnam Society and its Honorary President, Johann Jankowitsch, in recognition of his extensive contributions to fostering bilateral relations between the two countries over many years. At the award ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Vu Le Thai Hoang stated that the Friendship Order symbolizes the Vietnamese state's official recognition of Jankowitsch's unwavering dedication spanning over six decades to strengthening relations between Vietnam and Austria. He further added that the award reflects the profound gratitude and appreciation of the Vietnamese people for his achievements. This conferment highlights Vietnam's emphasis on maintaining and enhancing international relations, particularly with European nations. Under its one-party system, Vietnam continues to pursue economic growth while aiming to elevate its international standing and economic development through diplomatic engagement. Relations with the European Union (EU), in particular, have seen strengthened economic ties through agreements like the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and this award can be seen as part of these ongoing diplomatic efforts. Jankowitsch has, over the years, been instrumental in introducing Vietnamese culture and society to Austria, thereby promoting people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding between the two nations.
