Cambodia Sees Over 800 New Factories, Creates More Than 90,000 Jobs in First Six Months of 2026

According to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, Cambodia has seen a significant increase in factories during the first six months of 2026, with 845 new establishments creating over 90,000 new job opportunities for its citizens. This surge reflects Cambodia's robust investment environment and its sustained appeal as an investment destination. Sun Messa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, highlighted on August 5, 2026, that the number of factories grew from 46,649 to 47,494 in the first half of the year. This notable increase has generated more than 90,000 job opportunities, primarily within the industrial sector. Specifically, factories in the textile, garment, footwear, and travel goods and bags manufacturing sectors rose from 2,725 to 2,890. Messa stated that this positive growth underscores the unwavering confidence of both domestic and international investors in Cambodia and demonstrates the effectiveness of the government's policies in promoting investment, even amidst global economic uncertainties. "Despite the ongoing uncertainties in the global economy, Cambodia continues to attract investment, increase the number of factories, and create new jobs consecutively. This growth reflects investors' confidence in Cambodia's peace, political stability, pro-investment policies, and skilled workforce," the spokesperson said. He further emphasized that the over 90,000 new jobs created in the first half of 2026 serve as tangible proof that Cambodia is consistently generating employment opportunities for its people and strengthening the foundation for sustainable economic growth. In parallel, the Ministry's spokesperson urged citizens and former migrant workers to seek employment opportunities within the country. He recommended utilizing job fairs or contacting the hotline at 1297, which offers decent income, safety, labor rights protection, and social benefits in accordance with current laws, as a more prudent alternative to potentially time-consuming and costly overseas migration.
