Cambodia Urges International Support for Clearing Thai Cluster Bombs

Cambodia has called on the international community and experienced development partners to continue providing technical and financial support to address the impacts and clear M-series cluster bombs, believed to have been used by Thailand during border conflicts. According to the findings of the Cambodia Mine Action Centre (CMAC), cluster bomb submunitions of types M42, M46, and M85 have been identified as the M-series cluster bombs newly discovered in Cambodia, left over from border conflicts between Cambodia and Thailand in July and December 2025. These M-series cluster bombs pose a high risk and threat to life, with the potential to detonate at any time. They particularly threaten children and residents living or working in affected areas. To date, 10 Cambodian citizens have been harmed by these unexploded cluster munitions. The appeal was made by the Cambodian delegation during the side event "From Evidence to Action: Advancing Cluster Munition Remnant Survey through Regional Cooperation" at the 3rd Review Conference of the Convention on Cluster Munitions, held in Vientiane, Laos, from September 14 to 18, 2026.
