MANILA, Philippines — Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc. (Prime Infra) has appointed Tony Hayward, chairman of SierraCol Energy Ltd., Colombia’s largest independent oil and gas exploration firm, to its board of directors. This strategic appointment comes approximately five months after the Razon-led company acquired the Colombian oil giant. Hayward, who will continue in his role as chairman of SierraCol, is anticipated to play a crucial part in advancing Prime Infra's strategic priorities, both within the Philippines and in other selected international markets. Enrique Razon Jr., chairman of Prime Infra, stated, "We welcome Tony to the board. His decades of experience across the global energy industry, particularly in upstream and international markets, will bring valuable perspective as we expand our portfolio, integrate new platforms such as SierraCol, and pursue opportunities that can create long-term value for Prime Infra." Hayward is a seasoned global energy executive who has led SierraCol since its inception in 2020. Prior to his involvement with SierraCol, he held the position of group chief executive of BP p.l.c., a British multinational oil and gas company, from 2007 to 2010. Subsequently, he served as chairman of Swiss diversified natural resources company Glencore from 2013 to 2021. SierraCol contributes approximately 10 percent to Colombia’s gross oil output and operates two significant oil fields. The appointment of Hayward to the board is viewed as a significant step towards accelerating Prime Infra's global expansion strategy. Analysts have previously suggested that the acquisition of SierraCol could assist the Philippines in reducing its dependence on oil from Middle Eastern countries.
