LPA Outside PAR May Enter Philippines, Moderate Chance of Becoming Typhoon

A low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has a "moderate" chance of developing into a typhoon and may enter the PAR by Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning, the state weather bureau said. According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Veronica Torres, once the LPA enters and gradually approaches the country, it could potentially bring rainfall to a large part of the nation. She added that although the weather disturbance has a low chance of intensifying on Tuesday, its chances of developing into a typhoon increase beyond 24 hours. "This low-pressure area has a moderate chance of becoming a full-blown typhoon, meaning that in the next 24 hours the chance of a typhoon is low, but beyond 24 hours its chances are increasing," she explained. As of 3 a.m., the LPA was located 1,630 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon persists over Mindanao and the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas. Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are forecast over Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and BARMM due to the monsoon. The southwest monsoon is also expected to bring cloudy skies with occasional rains or thunderstorms over the following areas: The rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
