Cambodia, China to Enhance Cooperation in Culture and Tourism
Cambodia's Minister of Tourism and China's CAPCAD held a meeting in Beijing, agreeing to strengthen cooperation in cultural exchange and tourism promotion. Cambodia highlighted preferential measures for Chinese tourists, including visa exemptions.
AKP Phnom Penh, July 16, 2026 — The China Association for the Promotion of Culture and Arts Development (CAPCAD) has pledged to deepen cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, aiming to bolster bilateral cultural exchanges and joint tourism initiatives. The commitment was made during a working meeting held in Beijing on Wednesday afternoon between H.E. Huot Hak, Cambodian Minister of Tourism, and H.E. Yang Xiaoyang, President of CAPCAD. H.E. Huot Hak is currently in China accompanying Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, who is on a three-day (July 15-17) official working visit to the country and attending the 2026 World AI Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global AI Governance in Shanghai. During the talks, H.E. Huot Hak highlighted the long-standing, comprehensive strategic partnership between Cambodia and China, emphasising the joint efforts toward building a Cambodia-China community with a shared future in the new era. The Minister briefed the Chinese delegation on Cambodia’s rich tourism potential and the Royal Government’s latest favourable measures for Chinese travellers, including visa exemption policies. He also underlined the Royal Government of Cambodia’s firm commitment and robust efforts to completely eradicate online scam activities to ensure a safe environment for international tourists. Recognising the strong synergy between their sectors, both sides agreed to enhance cooperation through: Reciprocal organisation of high-level art exhibitions; Collaboration in cultural heritage preservation; Joint promotion of film, video, and digital cultural creativity; Arts education and human resource development; and the integrated development of culture and tourism. To turn these consensus points into action, CAPCAD announced it will formulate a detailed project proposal and lead a high-level cultural delegation to Cambodia in the near future to explore further cooperative opportunities. Both sides have appointed dedicated focal officials to coordinate the implementation of the agreed initiatives and streamline future project frameworks.
